I totally disagree with people who say that using presets or samples is cheating. For me, I’ll always design my own kick, snare, and main bass/synth from scratch — 100%. But some fills or initial ideas might come from digging through sample packs. I mean, it’s not really necessary to make 909-style hi-hats from scratch when there are already great packs out there.
If you’ve made a fair number of tracks, you’d know that saving time is everything. Inspiration and hype don’t last long, so you better catch them while you can. I mean, what’s the problem? If it sounds good, it sounds good. The revolution in music production is all about getting to the point as fast as possible.
